Gene Barrera is the GIS Manager for the County of Merced as well as a GIS Task Force Member supporting the State of California's NG-911 program. Gene is currently involved in modernizing the County's GIS program which includes developing a consolidated approach to data maintenance between local jurisdictions within the County. This approach will foster greater integrity in GIS data supporting local public safety call routing as well as the State efforts implementing NG-911.

Gene obtained his Master's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from The University of California, Berkeley and currently lectures at California State University, Stanislaus
